Buying a Television: What Features to Look For
When buying a television there are a number of factors to consider such as price and which features would you like your to have.
Which each new generation of televisions, manufactures are including more and more technological features that will enhance our television viewing experience.
Price Wise
Price is a very important factor for most of us when buying a new television. Since TV prices are continuing to fall, the good news here is that the longer you delay in deciding on buying a new television the less you are likely to pay later for a similar model.
Or for the same amount of money you would get more features included in your TV set, or you can buy a larger model.
Choice of Features
Here are some useful features you should consider when buying a television:
LCD Anti-blur Technology: 120Hz and 240Hz
Although the standard 60Hz technology seems fine for casual viewing, when viewing fast action sport TV, motion blur may occur in the fast action motions. The more recent 120HZ and 240HZ would reduce this motion blur and prevent loss of detail.
If you are a critical sport action viewer then this is a good feature to have. The more casual viewer is unlikely to even notice any motion blur. Note: Plasma TVs are free of motion blur.
LED Backlighting
A recent technology added to LCD TVs is LED backlighting. Conventional LCD TVs use fluorescent lamps.
There are two forms of LED backlighting:
full-array LED backlighting with local dimming, and
LED edge-backlighting
The second LED format enables LCD TVs to be made ultra-thin with some TVs being less than an inch thick.Since some TVs are so thin that there is not much internal space for their built-in speakers, their sound quality may be compromised. This shortcoming can be overcome by using these super-slim TVs with an external high-end sound system.
Streaming Television
With streaming television you can access internet programs via your HDTV, without using a computer, or stand-alone blackbox.
Some of the newer high-priced LCD and plasma HDTVs come with internet television broadband connectivity allowing you to stream internet programs directly via your TV.
With streaming television you can use your TV remote to access World Wide Internet TV (WWITV), watch YouTube videos, news and weather reports, access online photo albums. In the USA you can also watch movies from Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand and Blockbuster on Demand.
Note: You can also access internet television by using some of the newer Blu-ray players.
1080p or 720 Resolution
1080p resolution, which indicates High Definition (HD), displays finer resolution than 720p or 1080i. So 1080p is the better choice.
Energy-saving HDTV
With each new generation of television models, manufacturers are introducing energy saving features that would reduce power consumption. For example, the newer LED technology is more energy efficient than the older fluorescent lamps technology.
Screen Size
With HDTV, the bigger the screen size the better. With the price of TVs falling there is a good chance of you getting a larger screen size at a more affordable price.
Depending on your budget these are some of the amazing technological features you should consider when buying a television.
